Arizona is WIDE. [Jan. 5th, 2004|12:40 am]

Just back from a lovely Xmas / New Year’s trip. Will try to write more later, but for the curious:

Wed 12-24: San Diego to Huntington Beach, Calif.

Thu 12-25: H.B. w/ aunt, uncle, and cousins.

Fri 12-26: H.B. to Albuquerque, New Mexico. 800 miles in 12 hours, with some exciting weather near Flagstaff, Arizona. Spent the night at deliriumdreams’s, enjoying lovely beers.

Sat 12-27: Pestered deliriumdreams’s frighteningly smart daughter a fair bit, forced her to play some Set. Met up with raindancer for lunch at a mall, then went to some friends’ house for a holiday / engagement party.

Sun 12-28: A yummy breakfast (those friends — and their parents — spoil me rotten when I’m in town. Yay!), then drove up to Santa Fe to visit an old college chum. Grabbed some dinner, then back to their place for drinking, home repairs, and other geeky pursuits.

Mon 12-29: Breakfast at my friend’s family’s restaurant Tia Sophia’s. Let the green chile onslaught begin! Went to an antiques show, then coffee (well, tea in my case) with some of their friends. One unsuccessful house call on a sick computer later (the patient has gone on to the Happy Hacking Grounds where all Windows 98-based computers are eternally blessed), and I was headed back to Abq to meet up with raindancer and her family for dinner. It was great to catch up with J, and to see her and her newish daughter again. Finally, back to the same place as Saturday evening to visit and crash.

Tue 12-30: The other twin was home when I crawled out of bed, so I took her for a quick lunch at Dion’s, a bit of a tradition with those two. From there, a bit of liquor shopping (it seems that Glendronach is already in short supply), then driving down to Las Cruces, New Mexico, to meet up with the old college crowd and their new friends, including nirik (who actually updates via nirikrss), jinglechelle and quite a few others. More green chile for dinner: Kurt made some lovely enchiladas. We set up a fair bit of wireless networking at his place, too.

Wed 12-31: More green chile (probably at Pete’s Hacienda, but I’m not sure), party supply purchasing, and general lazing about. Spamgod showed up later in the evening.

Thu 01-01: Some people took off early, the rest of us lazed around, ate more food, and generally slacked off. A few games were played later in the evening: Uno, Outburst!, and Apples to Apples.

Fri 01-02: More green chile! We also grilled a bit of food for dinner.

Sat 01-03: Lots of music discussion. Also, an old friend (who also happens to be an ex-girlfriend of mine) and I went to visit and clean up the graves of my brother and her mom.

Sun 01-04: Drove from Las Cruces back here to San Diego: 700 miles in about 10 hours or so. Other than I-10 being a bit sluggish in Arizona, it was completely uneventful.

And now I’m off to bed. I hope everyone has a good new year!

Was so good to catch up with you! This doesn't let you off coming up north for a weekend soon though!

Likewise, of course. And heading north sounds good; if I get my act together (hey, it’s been known to happen every now and again!), I will try to take the train up there again. Very relaxing. :)

Glad to hear that baby enjoyed the trip, even if she made you uncomfortable at various points. Was Las Cruces worth it?

Well, much fun was had on the far end of the trip. I don’t mind the occasional bit of excitement while driving, but this trip was mostly relaxing.

Having taken empty, over-powered, rear-wheel-drive vehicles over Raton Pass in a snowstorm, I have probably had enough winter driving excitement to last me quite a while, thankyouverymuch!

How was the New Year brought in, there in Europe? Were you over your cold by then?

OMG. Tia Sophia's. I haven't been there in years. I'm thinking I'll be running up there my next day off.

And gee... all I rate is one lousy sentence. lol

Well, at least the munchkin got one too.

One Line

Only one line ... sorry. :) I fear my urge for long travelogues has been used up a few years back; I’m lucky I remembered my itinerary, even populated by such lovely people as yourself.

And Kira is a total sweetheart/riot. Take pictures for me, of the corpses she leaves in her wake, ok? (Now if only I could have that effect on girls closer my age ... and be aware of it, and take advantage of it. Alas.)

Have fun up at Tia’s. I gave Nick the URL to your journal, so he knows that you’re still alive and such. I still expect heߣll have a pretty funny look on his face when you show up, though. :)
