Ilya Live (swoon!) [Mar. 6th, 2004|01:50 am]
[mood |contentcontent]

The Ilya show at The Casbah was, predictably enough, fantastic. (Special to deliriumdreams: neener neener!)

New factoid for the evening: not only is the lead singer for Ilya remarkably beautfiul as well as talented, but all the other members of the band are dating (or married to, or at least being very cozy pre-show with) extraordinarily attracxtive women. Damn rock stars.

Exception: When I pointed out this observation to the drummer, he bemoaned the fact that he wasn’t dating anyone at the moment. So... San Diego girls: nice guy, great sense of rhythm, in a band...

The other bands were all good, and all in very different ways. The opening act on the main stage was Io from San Francisco; I’m usually bored by 3- or 4-piece bands, but I really enjoyed these guys. They reminded me a little of Placebo, and the bassist is a dead ringer for Trent Reznor.

Next up was Goodbye Blue Monday (their official site seems to be here, but I’m getting DNS failures when I try to resolve it). Darker, more focused and intense; in a weird way, I could see them being a Weezer vs. VAST hybrid.

In the second room, Aleph Research then went on to play some lovely spaced-out electronic pop music. I was reminded of a more tentative Sigur Rós.

Then, finally, it was Ilya’s turn. They played a short set, but it was good stuff: at least half of the set was all new, and Bianca read from Oscar Wilde poem The Happy Prince between songs.

(Not that I was paying all that much attention, as she is so pretty that I have a hard time concentrating on what she’s saying... tonight, she was making the most of pinstripe pants and a tight blazer. Mreow.)

Yes, I’m a perv — but at the same time, I am impressed by her for reasons that are not merely physical. Her tone and attitude in performances is always grateful and friendly, and she recognizes a random fan on the basis seeing me at two or three shows. The fact that she’s beautiful physically as well is just a bonus. :)

The rest of the evening was pretty standard. Me feeling uncomfortable for not being stylish enough; me drinking lots of Arrogant Bastard Ale to make up for that feeling; then a random taxi ride home.

A good Friday evening. :)

East Coast Tours

THey don't ever come out to DC, do they?

I think they do, actually; their tour last year was pretty widespread, and I know they made it to Florida, at least. (I don’t recall how far towards / into New England they got.)

They will hopefully have another album out at the end of this year, which would suggest tour at the beginning of next year.

Also, I got your IM the other night. Morning? Whichever.

And sorry about the errant IM. :) Getting up at 4 a.m. for whatever crazy reason is just strange enough that deliriumdreams would do something like that, so I thought I’d heckle.

The company WAS going to send me to DC for a full week. So I opted not to fly out to San Diego to then turn around and fly to DC and spend way too many hours on planes and not enough time at home. But then they decided not to send me. But by that time flights were way outta my league. The week after this upcoming one I'll be in San Fran... wanna come up? He he he. In any case, lemme know when they are playing again and I'll try again...
