Hm. It has been a few weeks, hasn’t it?
To answer at least one question I’ve seen posed directly at me: yes, I’m still alive. Sorry to make you worry, Rainy! [You are such a Mom!]
A fair bit has happened, but I have been in my usual state of too busy to write or too depressed to write anything interesting. Perhaps I need to start forcing myself to write something every night...
Two weekends ago, an aquaintance from Las Cruces came to visit. It was a good time, very laid back, some yummy food, and she got to spend lots of time on the beach. It’s a pity that Ocean Beach is so damned expensive, because she loves it out here ... but I don’t see many options for someone on a teacher’s salary. Sigh.
Last weekend was a gaming afternoon on Saturday, then a bike ride on Sunday. I apologize to all the SD LJ geeks that I didn’t post it here, particularly to nolly. My only excuse is that I have been (and still am) rather disconnected. By the time I thought to post it to my LJ, I figured it’d be taken as an afterthought. Perhaps honestly. I will do better next time... which, if everything works out the way I expect, will likely be May 15th.
Had my review at work this week. The synopsis: I need to brag more. Feedback from my peers was mostly of the “Well, I set out to do something, but found out that T had done it six months ago ... but nobody heard about it.” Sadly, I still have serious problems with self-promotion. Or, really, even liking myself. Sigh.
Then there was the feedback telling me to be less fucking depressed and cynical. Sorry, guys.
Tried to meet a coworker at a local bar this evening, but she wasn’t there (or she had already left; she said she was going for a few drinks at 9:00 p.m., I got there at about 9:30... *shrug*). Did run into my neighbor, so I had a pleasant time visiting with her and some of her friends.
[What the hell is it with bars / clubs / restaurants and loud music? I couldn’t hear a word they were saying...]
I also think I saw voider and caprine at Ranchos, around 8:30 or so. But wasn’t sure enough to introduce myself. I was reminded of their poor opinion of the service there — tonight was probably the worst I’ve ever experienced. I should stick to weekend afternoons, I guess.
Also thinking about getting another bicycle (or two). I really need lower gears, and it would be nice to get a bike that would be competent off-road but also efficient on-road ... and such a beast doesn’t seem to exist. So I will likely get two bikes; the question is, as I anticipate spending a lot more time doing long road rides than any sort of off-road riding, should I get a cheap-n-cheerful “mountain bike”, or a real one? The difference is from about $300 to $1300...
(I will likely end up getting a Novara Randonee from REI as my new road bike; the price is reasonable, it has the extra gears, and it is designed for heavy loading... 105Kg of me, then add gear...)
Plans for the weekend are limited. I will likely do some baking tomorrow — I will end up being the Banana Bread King, scarily enough.
Next weekend I’ll be in Denver, visiting family, friends, and a [hopefully!] a few new LJ acquaintances. (Hey, if nothing else, they can finally find out that I really am as hideous as I describe myself!)
The weekend after that is the spring Rosarito-Ensenada Ride. I did it last September and had a great time; so far, we are all registered, and have a hotel room booked. Now we just need to figure out vehicles to get down there. My car can seat the four of us, but carrying four bikes can be a bit of a challenge, and gear for four people adds up really quickly. Also, the other three are coming down from the Los Angeles megaplex, so they need to get their bikes down here in the first place — and one of them is a recumbent. No, we can’t be normal. We shall see.
Further-out plans include another friend visiting in mid-May (thus the gaming day on the 15th); flying to Denver for a wedding on June 12th; a co-worker is getting married here on June 26th; some friends in San Luis Obispo are getting married on July 17th [see the trend yet?]; maybe fly my mom out sometime in August; the bike ride in September again; a week and change in New Mexico in late October into early November... because the annual Halloween party is [probably] on October 30th in Las Cruces, then [yet another] friend is getting married on November 6th in Albuquerque.
In the mean time, I need to convince the Albuquerque contingent(s) that they need to visit. I think I have both deliriumdreams and raindancer convinced — it’s just a small matter of scheduling. :)
Hope everyone else has a good weekend, and I’ll try to update more often! :)
