Ok, so I'm procrastinating something fierce. Spotted a link to a dating profile test on stop_no_dont's journal, thought I'd give it a whirl.

After a bit of reformatting, the results were:

You matched the following traits:

# My Traits Ideal Match Traits
1 Liberal
Politics matters to you, and you aren't afraid to share your left-leaning views. You would never be caught voting for a conservative candidate.
Shy
You are put off by people who are open books. You are drawn to someone who is a bit more mysterious. You want to draw her out of her shell and get to know what she is all about.
2 Wealthy/Ambitious
You know what your goals are and you pursue them vigourously. Achieving success is important to you.
Liberal
You need a person who has liberal opinions and beliefs. You are engaged by political discussions and would find a liberal viewpoint refreshing in a date.
3 Intellectual
You consider your mind amongst your assets. Learning is not a chore but a constant search after wisdom and knowledge. You value education and rationality.
Intellectual
You seek out intelligence. Idle chit-chat is not what you are after. You prefer your date who can stimulate your mind.
4 Shy Practical
5 Big-Hearted Adventurous
6 Sensual Traditional
7 Practical Funny
8 Adventurous Big-Hearted
9 Traditional Stylish
10 Stylish Romantic

I can hear the heckling already...

nice job on your reformatting by the way... :) mine is a big jumble.

First off, I'm married, but I could not date a conservative person. I respect other people's values and want diverse friends and relatives, but I would not want to come home to someone that I passionately disagreed with.

formatting, values, vectors

nice job on your reformatting by the way... :) mine is a big jumble.

Thanks! :) Yeah, the format returned from that site is pretty bletcherous. (And I can be pretty picky about my HTML, so...)

I respect other people's values and want diverse friends and relatives ...

Indeed. Of course, one of the things about Conservatives in general is that they are unwilling to tolerate (let alone foster) diversity. Well, let me be clear: a true social conservative in the original sense of the term would be close to what we currently consider libertarian -- let people do whatever they want, as long as it doesn't affect them. Unfortunately, unrolling that "affect" is a complicated task in today's connected world.

The current batch of neo-cons, though, are all about conformity, uniformity, and adherence to the party line... all in the name of Machiavellian power grabs and sheer "morality through might".

Not that I'm bitter or anything.

... but I would not want to come home to someone that I passionately disagreed with.

Congratulations on making me think of relationships as vector algebra. :)

I agree that total opposites would be impossible; at the same time, I suspect that total similarity would be almost as bad. To me, the best mix is when there are enough agreements to form a common ground for comfort and a reconciling anchor, but enough differences to help each other grow and appreciate new things.

(The "vector math" version of this: two totally opposing vectors cancel out, leaving zero; two identical vectors add to make a vector that's just the same but twice as long. Two vectors at an acute angle, however, form a diagonal that would get you both someplace new and further from the origin than either vector individually.)

Re: formatting, values, vectors

See, even in talks of relationships, vector math has its uses.

So if I normalize the vector sum, will I have a perfect relationship?

traditional

Looking for a traditional gal are you?

Well, sure! Japanese tradition, Renaissance French tradition... heck, even recent traditions (Depeche Mode, Lords of Acid...)

And note that "traditional" is pretty low on both of my lists -- for my match, it's just below "adventurous". Which I hope I'm helping provide to her. :)

Does this mean our relationship is doomed?

Not at all -- look at your top three "match" attributes, compare to my top three traits. In the immortal words of Meatloaf: "Don't be sad / two out of three ain't bad."

(Obligatory goth connection: Meatloaf -> Jim Steinman -> Sisters of Mercy...)

And, c'mon, how seriously are you going to take a test that says "sensual" is 9th out of 10 traits for your perfect match.

Re: doom doom doom DOOM doom DOOM

Yes, you meet two of my three. I was looking the other way around, I only meet one of your three. And I completely don't get how I have sensual in my top three but find it not so important in a match. On the other hand, if you think that I took this seriously...

If the heckling is already taken care of, could I have the mocking and ridiculing? If it's not too much trouble.
